ruger american pistol
The Ruger American Pistol is a polymer-framed, semi-automatic pistol introduced by Ruger in December 2015.[3] Also, the pistol uses a pre-tensioned striker firing system, and is chambered in 9mm Luger and .45 ACP.[3] However, the pistol uses a Browning-type locked-breech short recoil action, with a barrel cam system that is designed to reduce felt recoil.[4] Moreover, the serialized part of the pistol is a steel chassis, which is fit to a glass-filled nylon frame. Furthermore, the frame incorporates a Picatinny rail for mounting accessories.[5]
However, in September 2016, Ruger announced compact versions of the pistol, again chambered in 9mm Luger and .45 ACP.[6][1]
In March 2020, Ruger introduced the American Pistol Competition, chambered in 9mm, and the American Pistol Compact with gray Cerakote finish, chambered in .45 ACP.

When designing the American® Semi-Auto Pistol, Ruger® engineers focused on producing a firearm that would meet or exceed the. Also, the result is a semi-automatic pistol that preforms flawlessly in the most extreme conditions; and is comfortable and highly controllable to shoot with great accuracy. However, the Ruger American is a striker-fired, polymer-frame pistol, utilizing the Browning-type locked-breech action with a unique barrel cam modification that reduces recoil by spreading the recoil impulse out over time, resulting in reduced muzzle flip. Also, the reduced recoil with the pistol’s low center of gravity and low bore axis work in unison to enhance control during rapid fire. Also, a short trigger take up with an excellent reset aids in obtaining top accuracy. However, the ergonomic frame features a CNC machined stainless steel chassis, which the steel slide travels on.

This pistol is built like a tank and has fired everything that I have tried, from steel cased to reloads and even ammo made in Bosnia Maxxtech ammo. I am very impressed with Ruger and their firearms.

The gun performs flawlessly and is very easy to shoot and clean. Excellent carry gun.

First the trigger is Very Good. Takedown is easy. Slide is easy to operate. Decent ergonomics. But… Out of the box the gun would only feed RN FMJ. Any other bullet style would jam. The gun is not accurate either. I really wanted to like this some good features but it’s been just frustration. I probably have a rare lemon, but after all the introductory hype you would think some effort would be expended to see that the product manufacturing process matched the development. This is the 5th Ruger handgun I have bought. There wont be a sixth. I am through with Ruger.

I purchased the Ruger American .45 ACP and LOOOOVE it so much, I am buying a second one. It’s beautiful and handles great. My accuracy with this pistol is fantastic compared to my FMK 9 and my Smith & Wesson SD VE .40. I have put about 800 rounds through it with only one jam and that was due to a magazine issue/feed. Ruger sent me a new one right away. Absolutely love, love, love my Ruger!
